The plant of the night for the May meeting was Joe Crawford's Phrag. caudatum x pearceii. Both parents to this hybrid are native to Ecuador and North Peru.

Phrag. Don Wimber

The plant of the night for the June meeting was Grant Garrett's Phrag. Don Wimber.

Grant was also our guest speaker for the night. He presented a collection of photographs of the awarded orchids for 2007 accompanied by a narrative describing various aspects of the judging.

PLANT OF THE NIGHT - July 2008

Den. Avrils Gold

Dendrobium Avrils Gold 'Highclere' won the Judges Vote and the Popular Vote at the July Meeting.

This magnificent plant was also awarded an AM (Award of Merit), with a score of 80.6 points, by the judges.

Grant Garrett

Grant Garrett is the grower of D. Avrils Gold 'Highclere'. Grant is the Registrar of Judges at Maribyrnong. He has been a judge for 33 years and has been growing orchids for 46 years. Grant's D. Avrils Gold is grown Hot/Cold: it is grown outside until the first flower begins to open, then it is brought into the hothouse.

Cymbidium Sarah Jean 'Wondabah', grown by Ron Ryan, won the Popular Vote at the August Meeting.
